A friend once told me that nothing was worth looking forward to because everything ultimately disappoints. I had no answer for her then, but in the meantime have realized that crap happens to everyone but the things that make life better are the things we work towards, be they healthy relationships, stable jobs, education, rewarding hobbies, developing skills or talents like singing or drawing or painting. Therein lies our ability to be not disappointed, and to be pleased with our lives. If we put no effort into making those good things happen, sure they may fall into our laps anyway but it is far more likely that they will not unless we create the space for them.
