Don’t Be a Dick, Dick. A Titans Review
I’ve recently binge watched the full first season of Titans on Netflix. I am among those who has really enjoyed it. I loved the Teen Titans comics in the early ’80s when I wanted very badly to be Starfire because she had really cool hair and was beautiful and confident.
I like the actors in the series overall, and I think the role of Dick is one of the hardest to do well. The character is, in my memory from childhood reading of comics, pretty bland (and yes, YMMV). His development as a character has largely come about after he left Batman and became Nightwing. I think the guy playing Dick Grayson/Robin on the new series is doing a great job of having an actual personality and making Dick/Robin interesting.
I’m also in love with the creepy Lovecraftian elements of the show and the amazing make-up that Raven has when she goes all freak-show on us. Were they really rescuing Angela from the Arkham Asylum? Ha!
But!!
I have a huge big fat but.
Dick was a complete dick to his female colleagues. Are they colleagues? Friends? Peers? How does he see them? Hard to tell from his behaviour.
Donna Troy, aka Wonder Girl, is brought into the show in Episode 8 called Donna Troy. What happens?
