A 20-year anniversary and an opportunity to assess that fateful choice

The first week of January in the year 2000 was a big deal for me. I’d just packed up my home in Toronto and moved to Guelph, ON. That first week of January I was busy with unpacking but also with trying to register for my first few courses at the University of Guelph, while simultaneously trying to understand how the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) was going to help me pay for it. I was 31 years old. I felt ancient.
