Somewhere I read about a rule about saying unpleasant things about or to people. If it meets two of the three criteria, one should go ahead. They are:
- Is it true?
- It is kind?
- It is necessary?
I don’t know the origin of these questions but they help me in deciding if I should say something that some people don’t want to hear.
I came from very difficult people too, and the one thing that matters the most in the world is that you find your own voice and speak your own truths. Nobody can take that from you once you have found it. When it comes to what goes in public pieces, I would say the above questions could serve as a useful metric for what goes in and what stays out.
